Former South African president FW de Klerk dies at 85
FW de Klerk, former South African president and Nobel peace prize winner has passed away at 85 according to the FW de Klerk Foundation’s statement on Thursday.
FW de Klerk had the honor of being the man who freed the last leader of apartheid South Africa, the famous Nelson Mandela from prison. He and Mandela shared the peace prize in 1993, and then went on to succeed him as the President of South Africa.
De Klerk passed away at his home in Fresnaye from mesothelioma cancer according to the foundation’s statement on Thursday.
