France banned pro-Palestinian protests citing state they are likely to generate disturbances to public order.
French authorities have taken the decision to prohibit upcoming solidarity protests in support of Palestinians, amidst the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. Two planned demonstrations organized by the Association France Palestine Solidarite and the Collectif National Paix Juste Durable Palestine, scheduled for Thursday evening in Paris, were halted by the Paris police prefecture, citing concerns about potential disruptions to public order.
Similarly, a demonstration set to occur in Lyon on Wednesday evening also faced a ban from local law enforcement. However, an anti-fascist group has encouraged individuals to participate in the protest despite the prohibition.
Earlier this week, another protest scheduled in Lyon on Monday was also banned, but a portion of the demonstrators chose to proceed with the rally.
The event was eventually dispersed by the police, who employed tear gas and batons to disband the gathering. These protests come against the backdrop of global demonstrations since Saturday when Hamas initiated a sudden attack on Israel, resulting in a significant loss of life.
