Two people, including a woman, have lost their lives during the government’s drive to distribute free flour among the underprivileged.

A 60-year-old woman died in a stampede during the distribution of free flour in Muzaffargarh, Punjab. The woman had reportedly come to the official point to get free flour, but suddenly lost her balance due to the stampede, and got injured. Later, the woman was confirmed dead.

After the case of the elderly woman’s death by a stampede in Tehsil Jatoi, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi reached Basti Arif at the house of the deceased woman Zehra Bibi. DC Shirazi offered condolences to the family. He assured the victim’s family that an impartial investigation will be conducted to determine the persons responsible for Zehra Bibi’s death.

A similar incident occurred in Bhakkar, Punjab where a 66-year-old man died. Bhakkar’s DC reached the spot and announced that an inquiry will be conducted as to how the person died.

It is worth mentioning that long queues of citizens to get free flour, an increase in deaths, and incidents of violence against citizens by the police have been reported in many places. It is argued that if the government wants to distribute free flour, it should be given to the citizens in a dignified manner, without humiliation.
