Friendship; A bond that withstands the test of time

31st May, 2023. As I watched a movie on friendship, how a best friend saves his buddy from marrying the wrong woman, I wondered how the phenomenon of friendship works. And, I thought, friends are like armour. They are the reason you’re saved from worldly escapades and they are also the reason behind wounds that never really heal. It’s quite ironic to see how the existence of a person can first, bind you with so many things, and later break.

Those little bonds which once stored immense happiness and joy, are sometimes completely replaced with unfulfilled wishes and sorrow. A place, song, movie, food, or colour. They leave their traces in everything. It’s like they touched you, and you were then, never yourself. For me, that song was ‘Tera Yaar Hu Main” by Arijit Singh. A song which speaks, and radiates how amazing the bond of friendship is. How nurturing, selfless, and heartwarming a person can make you.

Friendship, or as we better know it, dosti, is a bond where you can be yourself, where no formalities exist, where no give and take rule apply, where there’s plenty of room for healthy discussions, positive vibes, and pure joy. A bond created between family members, cousins, and most importantly strangers.

In my 21 years of existing, there is that one person that will forever stick with me. Which taught me the art of friendship, which taught me how to be a better person, and how my faith in friendship was restored. In 2014, I met this girl. Introverted but lively. At first thinking that maybe we’d never stand each other to travelling 8 hours for her engagement. Seeing each other everyday to not talking for 6 months straight. We always managed to make it.
