Funeral prayers held for Iranian General Suleimani

Iran (4th Jan, 2020): Millions attend funeral prayers of Iran’s Qassem Suleimani, including Iraqi PM.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, the funeral procession of Iranian General Qassem Suleimani killed in a US airstrike, was attended by millions of people including Iraq’s Prime Minister.

Funeral prayers held for Iranian General Qassem Suleimani and Deputy Commander of the Popular Mobilization Force (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Mahandas, who were assassinated in a United States drone attack on Baghdad International Airport. The funeral procession participants reportedly shouted anti-American slogans.

According to reports, the body of the late General will be sent to Iran where he will receive another funeral at Mashhad, sources have confirmed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatullah Khamenei will also be attending. Suleimani’s burial will take place in his hometown of Kerman.

It is to be noted that the situation in Middle East is tense following the assassination of Iran’s General Suleimani as Iran threatens revenge against the United States while US President, Donald Trump continues to make threatening statements. Moreover, as confirmed by reports, the US Secretary of State has contacted Pakistan and Saudi Arabia for involvement in the management of escalating tensions in the region.

According to reports, Pakistan and China have appealed to the US and Iran to remain peaceful and to resolves the matter through peaceful dialogue as Israel remains on high alert. It has further been reported that the United States has made another attack on Baghdad in twenty-four hours.

It should be noted that at least nine people have lost their lives in the US airstrike in Baghdad including Iranian General Qassem Suleimani and pro-Iranian leader, Al-Hashid al-Shabaabi. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Miniter, Javad Zarif, has responded to the US attack stating that it is “global terrorism” and that the United States will have to suffer the consequences.

According to the US Department of Defense Pentagon, the killing of General Suleimani was ordered by US President Donald Trump, which took action earlier on Friday.
