GB Assembly: Speaker, Deputy Speaker to be elected today

November 26, 2020: The Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Legislative Assembly will be elected on Thursday (today).
According to the spokesperson of the GB Assembly, the time for nomination papers for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly was from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, which is over, while polling will be held at 4:00 pm.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed nomination papers for Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Amjad Hussain Zaidi for Speaker and Nazir Ahmed for Deputy Speaker. Ghulam Mohammad for the post of Speaker and Rehmat Khaliq for the post of Deputy Speaker will be the candidates from the United Opposition.
The newly elected members will elect the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker by ballot. At the end of the polling, the incumbent Speaker Fida Muhammad Nashad will announce the newly elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

It may be recalled that in the November 15 elections to the GB Legislative Assembly, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won 10 seats, while seven independent candidates have also joined the PTI, winning 17 of the 24 seats in the Assembly. With PTI alone in a stable position to form a government.
