Thursday, June 25th: Google has now introduced a system to automatically delete some information recorded by users during a year.
Google chief Sundar Pachai, in an article on the company’s Safety and Security blog, announced some changes to consumer privacy in Google products. According to Google, users are now given the option to automatically delete all information recorded by the company over a period of three or 18 months.
Following this change, Google has changed the default settings from manual to auto-delete this month, meaning that user information will now be automatically deleted according to the new setting after a certain time.
Even after this control, users will still have the option to delete information manually, meaning users can keep Google’s recorded information permanently.
What information will be automatically deleted?
Location History: This information will now be automatically deleted after 18 months, but the user will have to turn it on.
Record using web and app: This too will now be automatically deleted after 18 months. All existing users will be notified of this new option via email.
YouTube (this option will come now): The record of this app will be automatically deleted after 36 months for new users and users who turn on history for the first time.
Now users who want Google to record some of their activities have to go to settings first and turn on this option. This is similar to the way users first have to allow Google to record a location.
