Google announces plans to limit ad tracking on Android devices

Dec 15. 2021: Alphabet Inc’s Google told its employees that if they did not comply with the COVID-19 vaccination rules, they would lose their pay and eventually be fired.

According to the report, a memo issued by Google’s leadership states that employees must declare their vaccination status and upload proof of vaccination documents by December 3, or apply for medical or religious exemptions.

After that date, Google said it would begin contacting employees who had not uploaded their status or had not been vaccinated and whose exemption requests had not been accepted, CNBC reported Tuesday. Employees who do not comply with vaccination rules by January 18 will be placed on “paid administrative leave” for 30 days, CNBC reported, followed by six months of “unpaid personal leave” and dismissal.

Like most parts of the United States, Silicon Valley is battling the relapse of COVID-19 and the new Omicron Corona virus, forcing companies to reconsider plans to bring staff back to work. The Biden administration has made vaccination mandatory for federal contractors across the country, but several prominent U.S. corporations have suspended efforts with some states challenging the president’s authority to mandate vaccination and claiming he is overstepping.

Google, however, which employs more than 150,000 people in the country, said it plans to follow Biden’s order. In July, the search giant said it will require all workers returning to work to get vaccinated.

“We expect that almost all of Google’s roles in the United States will be subject to executive order,” CNBC reported, citing Google’s memo. “Anyone entering the Google building must be fully vaccinated or have an approved residence permit that allows them to work or visit the site,” the company added. “Repeated testing is not a viable alternative to vaccination.”

Earlier this month, Google postponed plans to return fully to its offices indefinitely amid fears of a variety of Omicron and resistance from its employees to vaccinations imposed by the company. Earlier, the staff was expected to return to the office about three days a week from January 10.
