Provincial Doctors Association (PDA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), has said that the intensive care unit (ICU) wards allotted to government hospitals in coronavirus are running out of ventilator beds for patients.

In a statement, the group said the number of coronavirus victims in the province has risen alarmingly and is continuing due to which there is a severe shortage of ventilator beds for patients.

He demanded the government to increase the coronavirus testing facilities across the province so that the exact number can be determined.

The statement added that about 400 doctors have been infected with the coronavirus so far and 1,300 doctors should be recruited as soon as possible to fill the shortage in the coming days.

The doctors’ union called on the government to ensure the safety of medical staff in hospitals, which it said the police had failed to do, otherwise a sense of insecurity would force them to quit.
