Groups within the PML-N are envious of me: Miftah Ismail

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister of Pakistan and Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Dr. Miftah Ismail confessed on Wednesday that there are indeed groups within his party who are envious of him.

Miftah made the statement whilst appearing on Geo News’ program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, which is hosted by journalist Shahzeb Khanzada.

When the minister was posed with the question of whether PML-N supremo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was displeased with the management of economic affairs, Miftah Ismail said that most of the party members support him whereas some are concerned regarding the situation.

He added right after that some people within his party are jealous of him and they forward/spread bits of information against me. The minister said that most people understand the graveness of the situation and consider decisions made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as necessary ones and those which saved Pakistan from going bankrupt.

Dr. Miftah Ismail said that this is a coalition government and it moves forward only after consultations with coalition parties.

Ismail said that he respects people’s opinions and views. “Some may think I am not doing the right thing and some may have the opinion that I know my job” the minister added.

When questioned that whether Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were satisfied by his performance, Miftah Ismail promptly replied that if the two weren’t pleased with his performance, he would not be the finance minister of Pakistan right now.

He shortly added that a minister can be sent packing immediately by a simple message from the Prime Minister or his personal secretary.

While speaking on the appointment of a new State Bank chief, the minister admitted the delay but added that the vacancy will be filled by this week.
