MICHIGAN: US woman, Erin Honeycutt, breaks Guinness World Record for the longest female beard over a medical condition.
According to the Guinness World Records, Honeycutt, 38, suffers from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) which has enabled her to grow out her beard setting a record by 11.8 inches. In a new release on Wednesday, Guinness officials said, Erin Honeycutt managed to break the record after she ditched her routine of shaving three times a day.

Her condition, commonly known as PCOS, causes hormonal imbalance, excess hair growth (in some cases), and others. In Honeycutt’s case, her condition has allowed her to break the record and gain the title of a living woman with the world’s longest beard, without having to take hormones and/or supplements.
According to Guinness, shaving, waxing, and using hair removal products were regular methods that Honeycutt used to tame her beard since it started to grow out at the age of 13. Speaking with Guinness, Erin Honeycutt said: “I was probably shaving at least three times a day”.
Honeycutt reportedly maintained her lifestyle through most of her teens and adulthood, eventually getting “tired of shaving”. On February 8, 2023, she managed to clinch the award from 75-year-old Vivian Wheeler, as confirmed by the Guinness website. Wheeler’s beard was reported to be 10.04 inches (or 25.5cm) in length.

Apart from PCOS, she has an amputated leg after she developed a bacterial infection during a hospital stay for a foot injury. Five years ago, Honeycutt’s leg had become septic and “gangrenous when she decided to have half of the limb amputated” reported The Guardian. Maintaining a “positive outlook” in life has enabled Honycutt to manage her eye stroke and high blood pressure, among other medical problems.
“The thing that got me through losing a leg and eyes and everything – honestly – was that I had a cruise booked”, stated Honeycutt. She explained that it was in fact her loss of vision that influenced her to stop shaving.
Expressing her gratitude for the world record, Honeycutt said: “I never thought that I would be able to attain or achieve a goal that would let me be in a book”.
