Lahore, 15th April: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is conciliating between India and Pakistan to reach a mutual understanding to gain peace in the region.

According to reports gathered from Dawn News, UAE’s ambassador to Washington Yousef Al Otaiba had confirmed that the Gulf state is mediating between the two nuclear-armed rivals to reach a ‘healthy and functional relationship’.

Sources close to the matter told Reuters that in January this year, top intelligence officers from India and Pakistan held secret talks in Dubai to calm military tension in the region over the Kashmir dispute.

While addressing a virtual discussion with Stanford University’s Hoover Institution on Wednesday, ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba said that the UAE played its role between India and Pakistan in bringing down the escalation over Kashmir, thus creating a ceasefire between them.

Otaiba hoped that now the tension between the two rival countries may ease down and the relationship may come back to a healthy level.

He said, “They may not become best of friends but at least the relation should come to a level where its functional, operational and where they are on talking terms.”

UAE Ambassador added that Pakistan will play a helpful role in Afghanistan where the United States will start withdrawing its troop from May 1 to end America’s decade-long war in the region.
