Young Pakistani batsman Haider Ali has said that Indian batsman Rohit Sharma is his inspiration. He wants to play the same role for Pakistan that Rohit Sharma plays for India.

Haider said he wishes to play for Pakistan for a long time. When he first read the news of his selection on social media, he thought it must be fake news.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has selected Haider Ali as part of the 29 man squad for the tour of England. Haider Ali who made his First Class debut in 2019 says that while playing in England he will try his best to acquire a lot of skills.

He said it is a great learning opportunity for a youngster if he gets to play alongside the likes of Azhar Ali and Babar Azam and the team is coached by legends like Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. He said that he had always wished that he could learn something from Younis Khan and now his wish is coming true. He said he wants to learn to play sweep shots from ex-captain Younis Khan.

He said that Indian batsman Rohit Sharma is his ideal and he wants to become a clean-hitting and attacking batsman like him who has the capability to be a match finisher.

He said that Rohit Sharma’s remarkable ability to convert 50s into 100s and 100s into double hundreds is inspiring and he wishes to become the kind of batsman who can spend such a long time at the crease.

The 19 year old batsman from Attock, said that it is his wish to play for a long time for Pakistan. He also promised that there will never be a change in his attitude. If he plays for Pakistan, he will continue to have the same attitude that he has now. He said that the batting order does not matter to him. He can come up the order and hit out, and he can also play in the middle order and adapt his game to the situation. He has played in all three formats at the domestic level and mentally he has an idea of how to play each format.

He said that when his father first saw the news of his selection on social media, he thought that it might be fake news and he checked the PCB’s page for confirmation and only then did he believe it and was ecstatic. Amongst fellow cricketers the first one to congratulate him was Shadab Khan.
