Hand sanitizer becomes a cause of death in the US
Authorities in the United States say three people have died in the state of New Mexico after drinking a hand sanitizer made of methanol.
Three more people are in critical condition, while one person has lost his sight permanently.
A spokesman for the state health department said the incident was linked to alcoholism. Hand sanitizers contain high levels of alcohol and can be toxic if ingested.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against buying nine Mexican-made sanitizers because they contain methanol.
