The meeting was apprised of the progress made so far after the Punjab Cabinet approved the provision of Universal Health Coverage to 100% of the population of the province by the end of this year. Giving a detailed briefing to the participants on the feasibility of health facility program, budget estimates, and phased implementation, it was informed that under the short term plan, health cards would be provided in 7 districts of Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions by the end of the current financial year.
It will be ensured that by December 2021, 100% of the population of Punjab will have access to better treatment facilities through Health Card under Universal Health Insurance.
Addressing the meeting, PM Imran Khan said that in the past the health and education sectors were neglected due to which the health system became ineffective and the poorest people suffered the most. Providing quality and affordable health care and social security to the people, especially the lower class, is the top priority of the present government.
The provision of health cards will not only provide health protection to the common man which he has been deprived of for the last seventy years, but will also revolutionize the health system and build the health system on solid foundations. Prime Minister Imran Khan directed for continuous monitoring of the achievement of the targets of Universal Health Insurance and assured all possible cooperation from the Federal Government.
