Heatwave likely to subside during the coming days: Met Office

May 20, 2022: According to a press release issued by the Government of Pakistan, Cabinet Secretariat (Aviation Division) Pakistan Meteorological Department Islamabad, heatwave conditions are Likely to subside during the coming days and instead dust-thunderstorm-rain predicted from Thursdav (night).

The Met Office has informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter upper parts of the country on 19. May, Thursday(night) and is likely to persist till 24. May (Tuesday), due to which rain-dust-thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurrarn, Kohat, Waziristan, Bann, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum , Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura Faisalabad, Jhang, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan (Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Diamir, Hun= and Skardu) particularly during aftemoon and evening /nights.

Temperatures are lately to subside during the forecast period in most parts of the country.

The possible impact of these weather conditions include; • Relief from thc present heatwave conditions in most parts of the country, • Water stress on water (reservoirs), crops. vegetable and orchards may likely to continue. • Wind dust-thunderstorm may cause damages to vulnerable structures in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad upper Punjab. Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir during the forecast period.
