Heavy rainfall in Assam, severe flood warning issued

Rains in the Indian state of Assam wreaked  havoc and flooded many areas.

Floods in the Indian state of Assam have submerged thousands of villages.

According to Indian media reports, 3.6 million people in 26 of the state’s 33 districts have been badly affected by the floods and thousands have been displaced.

The State Disaster Management Authority said that more than 3,300 villages in the state have been inundated and about 44,000 people have taken shelter in various camps.

According to the authority, rains and floods destroyed standing crops on several lac hectares, while water in the Brahmaputra and other streams flowing in the state is flowing above the danger mark.

Rains, landslides and various other accidents have so far killed 87 people and left many missing.

On the other hand, 90% of Qazi Rinka National Park, famous for its one-horned rhinoceros, has also been submerged and 147 animals have been rescued, while 120 animals have drowned.
