Lahore, 2nd March: How was Her Royal Highness Princess Durre Shahwar related to Ertugrul Ghazi?

Baaghi TV: The princess was the daughter of Abdul Majed II, the 19th generation of Ertugrul Ghazi and the last caliph of the Ottoman Caliphate.

Princess Durre Shahwar was a very beautiful and virtuous woman. By the time she was born, the Ottoman Empire was counting its last days.

After the fall of the Khilafah in 1924, her father, Abdul Majed II, was deported and got settled in southern France.

On November 12, 1931, in Nice, France, she married Azam Jah, the eldest son of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Usman Ali Khan.

In 1933, Mukarram Jah and in 1936, Mufham Jah was born from her. Both studied in the UK and married Turkish women.

Instead of traditionally wearing veils, she used to attend special events and perform various activities for the welfare of the people. She also established a hospital in Hyderabad which is named after her.

She was last seen presiding over a ceremony marking the military’s 25th anniversary.

The decline of the empire began in the late eighteenth century, and it ended in 1922, after the First World War

Turkey’s new administration, led by Mustafa Kemal, forced the royal family into exile. In November 1922, Sultan Wahiduddin Muhammad IV, the last king of the Ottoman Empire, evacuated his royal palace in Istanbul with his family and took refuge in the French capital.

Although for some time after that, Sultan Muhammad’s cousin Abdul Majed II was appointed as the Caliph in name only, but on March 3, 1924, the complete abolition of the Khilafah was officially announced.

On February 7, 2006, Princess Durre Shahwar died in London.
