The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to notify the members on the Punjab Assembly’s reserved seats after accepting a plea registered by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The PTI had moved the provincial apex court against the ECP’s decision deferring the issuance of a notification on the reserved assembly seats till the by-elections on 20 vacant seats.
Pertinent to note that the reserved seats fell vacant after the ECP disqualified four members of the provincial assembly who joined the PA on reserved seats on PTI’s symbol after they defection to the PML-N for the election of the new chief minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif.
Political pundits said that impact of these reserved seats allocation could be ‘game changer’ Punjab already facing a political and constitutional crisis.
Now PTI and PML-Q coalition are in somehow better position and could elected their next cheif minister in Punjab if PTI could get upcoming by-polls in Punjab.
