Hurricane in the UK, thousands without power for 5 days
ENGLAND: Thousands of homes in Scotland and the north of England are still without power after five days.
According to reports, hurricane Irwin killed three people on Friday, leaving thousands of homes without power after winds of up to 100 miles (160 kilometers) per hour.

The Energy Networks Association (ENA) said that as of Wednesday morning, engineers had reconnected 97% of the properties, but about 30,000 were still without power. Restoring electricity to 30,000 homes may take more time. “We have teams of engineers working around the clock to restore the network”, claimed ENA.

The ENA further said that the scale of the restoration efforts facing engineers was enormous, adding that wind speeds in central Scotland had been “seen only twice in the last 25 years”.
The magnitude of the hurricane is such that we haven’t seen it in 60 years, we have to be prepared for similar extreme weather conditions in the future, he said.
