International Cricket Council’s (ICC) official, Steve Richardson, has termed Indian cricket as a hotbed of corruption while speaking in a video session.
Steve Richardson, a key member of the anti-corruption unit in ICC, says that there are around 50 corruption cases and most of them are from India. I can tell the government the names of these 8 habitual criminals who are constantly trying to keep in touch with cricketers and officials.
Ajit Singh, the head of Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) also unveiled the glaring facts and said that in India gambling is worth Rs 30,000 to 40,000 crore. Players, support staff, officials and franchise owners are all targeted by the bookies.

Speaking in a video session, ICC ACU Coordinator of Investigation, Steve Richardson said that although no high profile Indian cricketers have recently come on the radar, bookies and players at the grassroots level are constantly active. The small domestic leagues are being used for nefarious purposes and players are the last link in the chain. However, the organized group behind corruption is sitting outside and shaking the ropes.
He said that sports activities were suspended due to coronavirus and players suffering from financial difficulties could easily fall into the trap of bookies. It is not easy to discourage corruption without a legislation against gambling.
