Lahore October 20 (Online): Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former Prime Minister Ch Shujat Hussain has said if his made Code of Conduct in 2004 was approved then nobody would have dared to say, write and broadcast anything against national interest.

“I as PM had directed Information Ministry to draft comprehensive summary and form a committee comprising people of all schools of thoughts and journalists,” he said in a statement issued by PML-Q office on Tuesday.

He maintained that “I had suggested as the Prime Minister that the Information Ministry should draft a comprehensive summary, form a committee comprising people from all schools of thoughts and journalists, anyone committing violation of the Code of Conduct should be produced before this committee and if crime is proved the committee should suggest punishment according to his crime and PEMRA should get it implemented, appeal against this punishment should only be heard in the Supreme Court.”

Shujat Hussain further said that my objective was not only a fee of Rs5 million but also get approved along with this summary that nobody should say, write and broadcast anything against the national interest of the country.

He said that the Cabinet Division for approval of the proposed Code of Conduct get the summary presented by the concerned ministry wherein there should be no mention at all of TV license etc. rather these laws should be applicable on every person, party or anyone else who publicize, print or got printed anything against the national interest and in some very grave cases in which complete and concrete proofs are there then punishment of hanging can also be awarded without any discrimination, I wanted this to be approved during my prime ministership but this could not happen.
