IGP adopts zero tolerance against criminal police officials

Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani has said that under policy of first reward then punishment, transparent and impartial self-accountability of officers and personnel is the top priority of the department to ensure prompt departmental and legal action against police employees involved in irresponsible performance of duties, trespassing from authority or breaching of law.

He further said that if an FIR is registered against any police officer or official in any region or district of the province, the Internal Accountability Branch should conduct its own inquiry. He further said that the Regional and District Monitoring Units should ensure close monitoring of the cases registered against the police officers and officials while Additional IG Investigation would continue to take regular reports on the monitoring of these cases and the action to be taken. IGP added that If the FIR against a police officer or official is proved to be false, the officers who allow such cases should be held accountable, whereas after the registration of the case, if there is no departmental action against the concerned officer or official, the supervisory officer will be held accountable. He further said that if any officer or official was suspended and his inquiry is not completed within the stipulated time, an explanation should be sought from the concerned senior officer. He gave these instructions while presiding over a meeting on issues related to internal accountability at the Central Police Office here today.
Instructing the officers, the IG Punjab further said that a monitoring officer should be appointed in every sub-division of all the districts to follow up the cases registered against the police personnel and also to pay attention to the digital monitoring of the progress on all the registered cases. He further said that redressal of citizens’ grievances against the police is one of the top priorities of Punjab Police and for this purpose strict system of self-accountability is the basis for improving the overall performance of the force as well as speedy redressal of grievances of citizens. He further said that the purpose of internal accountability is to make the force disciplined so that it can better serve the people and perform its duties and further improve the overall performance of the police. Additional IG Establishment Ali Amir Malik, Additional IG Operations Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan, Additional IG Investigation Fayyaz Ahmed Dev, DIG Establishment-II Maqsood Al Hassan, DIG Legal Dr. Moin Masood, DIG IAB Yousuf Malik, DIG R&D, Shahid Javed, DIG Establishment I-Sher Akbar and DIG IT Waqas Nazir were also present on this occasion.
