Baaghi TV: Divorce rates rise alarmingly in Saudi Arabia after Corona lockdown
According to a foreign news agency, the lockdown caused by the corona virus in Saudi Arabia has led to an increase in the rate of divorce and an increase in marriages. The numbers have shaken people. Seven divorce cases were recorded per hour in the country during the last five years.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Justice, 135 divorce cases were registered in April and 4,000 in July, while 53% of divorce certificates were issued in Riyadh and Mecca in July.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Justice, 19,000 couples tied the knot in July, that number is up 47 percent from the same month last year.
In a program presented by Saudi private TV Al-Akhbariya, the growing trend of divorce was described as a moment of reflection for all. A report on wedding expenses in the program said that the average wedding cost is 60,000 riyals, which is set as a loan by Shadi Bank. The financial loss to society in the event of a divorce is estimated at more than three billion riyals a year.
The financial deficit in the survey is calculated from the amount of loan taken from the bank for marriage.
Divorce rate increases by 14% in one month
The survey further said that the average financial deficit is estimated to be much higher than the loss of families who go through these conditions. In the case of separation, the psychology of the man and the woman and the people associated with them are also severely affected.
The annual survey report further said that the trend of marriage has declined in the last five years while the incidence of divorce has increased dramatically.
Globally, experts say that the growing trend of divorce is considered a dangerous sign for any society and it must be remedied socially.
There is an urgent need for intellectual thinking and harmony to reduce the tendency to divorce. For this, conciliation committees have been set up at the neighborhood level (councilors) in Saudi Arabia. Where reconciliation is sought between the parties, if the reconciliation effort is successful, then the turn does not come to divorce.
In this regard, a psychologist said that “divorce is an act which should be avoided by both the parties because divorce does not happen only in two persons but its effects are felt by two families”.
Another sociologist said that in the case of separation between couples who have children, the children’s psyche is completely destroyed. Children in separated families suffer from psychological problems that can be very dangerous for their future.
