India bans Pakistani, local YouTube channels

New Delhi: India has banned four Pakistani and eighteen local YouTube channels, while three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account, and a news website have been blocked.

According to Indian media, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (E&IT) on Tuesday blocked 22 YouTube channels. Of those, four are YouTube news channels based in Pakistan including Dunya Mere Aage, Ghulam Nabi Madani, Haq TV, and Haqeeqat TV 2.0. The aforesaid channels have been accused of spreading fake and false news about India.

According to Indian media, a total of 78 YouTube channels and numerous social media accounts have been blocked in India since December 2021. According to the Indian Ministry of IT, the blocked YouTube channels were involved in spreading fake news on sensitive issues such as national security and India’s international relations.

On the other hand, for the first time, 18 Indian YouTube news channels have been blocked under the IT Rules 2021.

The 18 blocked YouTube channels in India include ARP News, AOP News, LDC News, Sarkari Babu, SS Zone Hindi, Smart News, News 23 Hindi, Online Khabar, DP News, PKB News, Kisan Tak, Borana News, Official News Update, India Weather, RJ Zone 6, Exam Report, DJ Grockle, and Daily News, respectively.

In addition, an Instagram account, two websites, and a Facebook account have been blocked. This action has been taken under IT rules.

According to statistics, the blocked channels have been viewed and listened to more than 260 million times.
