India expels Pakistani High Commission staffer over spy charges

Three days after the ceasefire announcement, Indian government on Tuesday declared an official working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi as persona non-grata. The person is allegedly engaged in activities inconsistent with his diplomatic role. Earlier on May 11, The Punjab Police announced the arrest of two persons on charges of espionage activities. A Pakistani national posted at the high commission in New Delhi was also found to be involved in the case. The decision regarding this has been conveyed to the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission. The step taken by the Centre has come at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan reached new high.
