June 28, 2021: On Monday, India surpassed the United States in terms of the total number of vaccines against the corona virus (COVID-19), according to the Union Ministry of Health.

According to the provisional report, a total of 32,366,329,7 doses of vaccine were given in India till 7 am on Monday. Of these, 17,21,268 doses were given in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the US has administered 32,33,27,328 doses of the vaccine since December 8.

India’s vaccination drive began on January 16, 2021, while the US launched its drive on December 14, 2020. The country’s vaccination drive, which was hailed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a drive which “keeps gaining momentum”, entered a new phase of vaccination on June 21.

Prime Minister Modi said, “Enthusiasm for the pace of India’s vaccination drive continues! Congratulations to all those who are leading this effort. Our commitment is to make vaccines available to all, free for all.” Modi said.

As part of the new phase, all doses of vaccine began to be allocated to states and central regions based on their population, vaccination progress and infection burden. In addition, the Center decided to purchase 75% of the jaws from vaccine makers for free supply to the states, while private sector hospitals continued to purchase the remaining 25%. However, it was announced that private hospitals could not charge more than ₹ 150 over the pre fixed price for each dose.
