India questions the loyalty of its Sikh soldiers after reaching a ceasefire with Pakistan.
After defeat in the war, the Modi government has raised questions about the loyalty of the Sikh chief of the Indian Air Force due to which more than 3,300 Sikh soldiers may face court-martial.
In a high-level secret meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and the military leadership, Air Force Chief Amarpreet Singh was accused of undermining the performance of the Indian Air Force during the recent operations against Pakistan.
According to leaked information from inside sources, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval sarcastically asked Air Chief Marshal Amarpreet Singh, “Did you serve India honestly in this war?” To which Air Chief Amarpreet Singh replied, “I am serving India according to my Sikh faith.”
The exchange indicates a growing internal distrust within the Indian military ranks, especially with regard to Sikh officers and men.
Just as Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is facing threats for his role in the ceasefire, Amarpreet Singh is also facing threats from right-wing Hindutva groups, who hold the Air Force Chief responsible for the loss of Rafale jets during combat operations.
More than 3300 Sikh soldiers are now under the surveillance of Indian military intelligence. An internal investigation is also underway into the activities of Sikh soldiers after the Pahalgam attack and Sikh soldiers may face court-martial in the future.
Earlier, the pro-Khalistan group SFJ (Sikhs for Justice) had appealed to Sikh soldiers to desist from fighting against Pakistan. Now Sikhs for Justice has said that Sikh soldiers do not want to fight the Indian war. Sikhs for Justice stands with Sikh soldiers. The facilities that the Indian army provides to Sikhs will be provided by Sikhs for Justice. Sikh soldiers will support the Khalistan referendum, India will never believe in Sikhs.
