Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully carried out a combat firing (with reduced explosive) of the indigenous Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM).
The MIGM, an advanced underwater naval mine, was developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with DRDO’s High Energy Materials Research Laboratory in Pune and the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory in Chandigarh.
DRDO, sharing a video on X, said MIGM is designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities against the modern stealth ships and submarines.
MIGM is designed to counter modern stealth ships and submarines, strengthening the Indian Navy’s defensive capabilities. Bharat Dynamics Limited, Visakhapatnam, and Apollo Microsystems Limited, Hyderabad, are the production partners for the system.
Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, confirmed that with the successful validation trial, the system is now ready for induction into the Indian Navy.
