New Delhi: According to reports, the suicide rate in the Indian Army has risen sharply and every day there are reports of suicides among soldiers and officers.
In this regard, India has set up a task force comprising senior Home Ministry officials to curb the rising trend of suicides in the forces. According to Kashmir Media Service, the task force is headed by Indian CRPF Director General Kuldeep Singh, while Special DG Additional Director General of BSF, ITBP, CISF, SSB and Assam Rifles, will act as members of the force. The task force will develop a plan to identify relevant risk factors and safety factors at the individual level.
Figures updated by the Indian government as of August show that 680 members of the Indian Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) or Central paramilitary forces have committed suicide in the last six years. The task force has been asked to identify risk factors such as past suicide attempts by the force personnel, emotional traits as personality traits, mental illness, alcohol or drug use, aggressive tendencies, severe emotional crisis. , Severe physical illness or chronic physical illness.
A senior Indian Home Ministry official said that the task force would try to resolve the issue of suicides in a comprehensive manner.
