Dec 8, 2021: An army helicopter carrying fourteen people, including Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat, crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

So far, three people have been rescued and a search for a fourth is under way.

The three survivors sustained serious injuries and were taken to Al Wellington Cantonment Hospital in Nilgiris District.

According to sources, CDS Bipin Rawat’s crew and family members were on board the MI series helicopter when it crashed between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu. According to sources, CDS Bipin Rawat was on his way to Wellington in Coonoor from the Indian Air Force base in Sulur.

Visuals from the site of the Indian Army helicopter crash showed massive flames and locals helping with the immediate rescue operations. Several teams are at the site carrying out search and rescue operations.
