Wednesday, July 1st: According to the report of Baaghi TV, 51 Kashmiris were martyred by Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir in June 2020. This is the highest number of Kashmiris martyred in a month so far.
In 2020, 134 young militants were martyred in 21 different operations in Srinagar, Shopian, Anantnag and Pulwama. Meanwhile, 13 civilians were also martyred in different incidents. According to the data compiled by South Asian Wire, during the same period, Indian forces allegedly arrested at least 19 people in 9 different incidents, most of them youths. The arrests were made during about 300 search operations in different areas. More than two dozen residential houses were also destroyed in the operations.
Indian Army, military forces and police opened fire on the operations, injuring 48 people and killing two security personnel.
In August last year, New Delhi repealed Article 370 and adopted a strategy of effectively crushing separatist groups in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. There is little room for mainstream political parties to carry out their activities, and none of them has yet spoken out against New Delhi’s unilateral decision to take back the sovereignty of Jammu and Kashmir.
The militants who carried out the attacks or engaged in clashes in recent months are mostly local Kashmiris. According to the South Asian Wire, people, especially the youth, feel that there is no understanding between Kashmir and New Delhi. There is no possibility and now they have only two choices. Surrendering to the new political reality is resistance.
Twenty more security personnel, including a colonel and a major, have been killed in ambushes and encounters in Kashmir since last April. More than 110 militants, including senior commanders, have been killed in the first six months of the year.
Several senior commanders of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba have been martyred in government army operations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir this year. According to Al-Qamar Quran Online, four militants belonging to Tehreek-e-Labaik and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were martyred in an exchange of fire with government forces in Delgam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir.
