Khamenei dismisses as “absurd” claims Iran wants an atomic bomb

Back in 2008, media reports confirmed that a dozen bombs went off across Ahmedabad. At the time, militant Islamic organization Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami claimed responsibility. International media placed blame on Pakistan considering it to be a Pakistani-based terrorist occupation, however, it is no longer active.

It is pertinent to note, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the then Chief Minister of state at the time. The blasts had occurred in waves, through use of ordinary objects such as lunchboxes and bicycles, according to international media reports.

The city which already had a history of inter-faith clashes became a site for major violence in the early 2000s when approximately 1,000 plus people dead. Reports at the time claimed that the deaths were triggered due to an attack on a train carrying Hindu pilgrims, of which sixty had been killed. However, no concrete evidence was provided and the case was never proven still the Hindu extremist factions lay blame on the Indian Muslim population.

Judge A.R. Patel reportedly convicted the accused over murder charges, conspiracy to wage war against the state, and illegal possession of arms. Meanwhile, he acquitted twenty-eight others over a lack of evidence.
