An Indian Air Force pilot ejected himself safely from the MiG-29 fighter jet, which crashed into a field and caught fire near Uttar Pradesh’s Agra on Monday, defence officials said.

The plane had taken off from Adampur in Punjab and was on its way to Agra for an exercise when the incident happened.

Visuals from the site showed a crowd gathering near the burning fighter jet.

A court of inquiry will be ordered into the crash, officials said.
