Indian Technical Team Sent to Embassy in Kabul
India has sent a technical team back to its embassy in Afghanistan and that their job is to “monitor the situation” to see how New Delhi can support the Afghan people, Indian media reported.
“We pulled back the India-based diplomats and staff after the Taliban took control of Kabul because we had legitimate security concerns — a lot of other countries also did it. With the passage of time, we have sent back a technical team to the embassy. They have been there for some time, their job is essentially in a sense to monitor the situation and see how we can support the Afghan people in their hour of need,” Indian External Affairs’ Minister said at a press conference marking nine years of the Modi government, as quoted by The Times of India.
According to the report, the Indian External Minister in response to the question if there will be any kind of beginning of minimal engagement with the current government in Afghanistan, said:
“I mean, this is a country which had a vaccine shortage, wheat shortage, medicine shortage. You know, there are projects that will get into difficulty with the passage of time. The focus right now in Afghanistan is less, I would say, political. It is more like helping the Afghan people because Afghan people are people with whom we have a historical connection. So, that is really the current state of the situation.”
After the Islamic Emirate came to power, many countries including India closed their diplomatic missions in Kabul.
