In India, the number of active COVID-19 cases has surged to 2,710, with seven deaths reported across multiple states, once again exposing the fragile state of the country’s health infrastructure and the government’s inability to effectively manage public health crises.

According to Kashmir Media Service, India’s Ministry of Health reported one death each in Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu, while Maharashtra accounted for two fatalities. Kerala reported the highest number of active cases, standing at 1,147, with reconciliation of mortality figures still underway. Meanwhile, the state of Bihar has yet to release its daily COVID-19 update.

Health officials have stated that comorbidities are a major contributing factor in most of the recent cases. However, public health experts have strongly criticised the BJP-led Modi government for ignoring early warnings and failing to take preventive measures during the initial stages of the resurgence.
