India’s preparation after an economic bomb

Lahore, 19th Feb 2020: US President, Donald Trump along with his wife Melania Trump are expected to visit India on the 24th and 25th of Feb 2020, and will be visiting Delhi and Gujrat.

Indians, on the social media are raving on this Presidential visit and have created a hashtag with the name of “Kem cho”, meaning, “how are you”, which has gone viral.

Ahmedabad, the largest city and former capital of the Indian state of Gujarat, nowadays is going through major renovations and is preparing to welcome the US President and his wife in a grand manner. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the President Trump are scheduled to inaugurate a newly built stadium in Ahmedabad, Sardar Dilip Patel Stadium, having a capacity of over hundred thousand people, which is more than the capacity of the Australian Cricket Stadium. It is expected to be jam packed with one hundred thousand spectators on the occasion.

Trump will also conduct a road show in Ahmedabad and will visit an Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi had once stayed and it was a great location during the War of Independence in 1857. Around 10,000 police officers have been deputed at the Ashram and the Matera Stadium (Sardar Patel Stadium) for the security purposes.

All these arrangements are being hindered by a slum area in Ahmedabad along the route of the airport and the Ashram, which needs to be hidden from the US President and for that the Indian Authorities are building a 7 feet, 1 kilometer long wall to conceal the area. Approximately 2,500 people reside over there and they will have to suffer due to this wall.

This official visit is in accordance with Trump’s Election Campaign and is considered to be very beneficial for him as many of the people of Gujrat are the American residents and they will subsequently vote for him.

Modi is upbeat and feels that Trump will be over whelmed with the magnificent welcome. Modi tweeted and expressed his excitement on the trip and mentioned the Indian culture and democracy almost similar to that of the American. Both the countries have same interest on the international level according to Modi.

Inspite of all this grandeur presented to the US President, Trump has dropped an economic bombshell on India. America has excluded India from the list of GSP Plus (Generalized System of Preferences) countries and previously being on this list India was exempted to pay tax on almost 2000 of its commodities.

After this step India will not be able to carry out it’s trade smoothly with America and a tax of 260 million dollar will be applied to the Indian items and fines will be imposed also. This will also have an impact on the Pre-Trade contract between India and America and will have a negative impact on the Indian Industry.

All this is happening at the time when Trump is about to visit India and Modi is paying accolades to him and to hide his country’s poverty, he is constructing walls, then the people of India should wake up and realize how much a well wisher Modi is for them?
