June 24, 2021: Iran claimed on Wednesday that the U.S. would lift oil and shipping sanctions on the country but the State Department said nothing has been agreed to.

Iran claimed the concession was made during talks to renegotiate the Iran Nuclear Deal that President Biden is aiming to rejoin after former President Trump backed out of it.

Mahmoud Vaezi, the chief of staff of outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, said: “An agreement has been reached to lift all insurance, oil and shipping restrictions imposed by (former US President Donald) Trump. ”

But the State Department pushed back saying, “During this complex discussion, negotiators try to draft a text that captures important issues, but again, until Not everything is agreed upon, nothing is agreed upon. ” National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan said Sunday that there is still a long way to go in negotiations with Iran and other countries when it comes to negotiating an agreement.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas echoed Sullivan’s sentiments. “We are making progress but there are still some nuts left,” Maas said.

Iran is seeking to lift sanctions because they have devastated the country’s economy.
