The Iran Human Rights Organization, in its annual report, revealed that 80 Afghan prisoners were executed in Iran in 2024.

According to the report, the number of Afghans executed in Iran has tripled compared to 2023.

The report states: “At least 80 Afghan citizens were executed. This number was 25 in 2023 and 16 in 2022.”
The Iran Human Rights Organization also recently reported the execution of eight prisoners, including two Afghans, who had been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses, armed rebellion (moharebeh), rape, and murder.

Political analyst Fazl-ur-Rahman Oria commented on the executions, stating: “Unfortunately, the execution of defenseless and oppressed Afghans in Iran is increasing. This is intolerable for the people of Afghanistan and also violates international conventions and standards.”

Another analyst, Zalmai Afghan Yar, told media: “The rise in executions in Iran is politically motivated, a result of unresolved issues through dialogue, leading to retaliatory actions. I hope Tehran’s leaders adhere to international laws and principles.”

The Islamic Emirate has not yet commented on these figures. However, a delegation from the Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate had previously traveled to Iran to discuss the transfer of Afghan prisoners.
