Iran has ruled out any direct negotiations with the United States, with the Foreign Ministry stating that any future talks must be conditioned on holding Washington accountable for recent military strikes on its nuclear facilities. The announcement further complicates diplomatic efforts to address Iran’s nuclear program.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told reporters that Tehran would demand compensation for what it is calling military aggression against its “peaceful nuclear program.” He specified that the June 22 U.S. strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites must be addressed, stating that these attacks not only caused significant damage but also derailed already stalled negotiations.
The U.S. strikes, which briefly drew Washington into a broader conflict initiated by Israel, targeted several key Iranian facilities, according to international reports. Baqaei’s statement marks a firm new position from Iran, indicating that a resolution to the nuclear dispute will require more than a simple return to the negotiating table and will now involve discussions of redress for the military actions.
