Tehran: Iran has conducted a successful test of medium-range and long-range naval cruise missiles in the Northern Indian Ocean and Gulf of Oman.

According to sources, on Thursday morning during military exercises, the Iranian Navy tested the missiles at under-water targets that were 80 km and 200 km away. These missiles possess the ability to be launched with greater energy to strike further off targets.

During the exercises the missiles were successfully tested on sea-to-sea, coast-to-sea and also ship to sea targeting.

On the conclusion of the exercises the Deputy Coordinator of the Iranian Army, Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that Iran’s cruise missiles are a fundamental and promising step towards promoting the defence capabilities of the country. He said that even in this age of cruel sanctions, without any technical help from outside, Irani experts have continued the development and progress in the defence sector based on their own ability and indigenous technology.

Commander of Iran’s Navy Admiral Hossein Khanzadi also said while declaring the military exercises and cruise missile tests as a success that the efforts of our young experts using indigenous technology proves that Islamic Republic of Iran has considerably added to its ability to defend itself against any threat to its people or the Islamic system of government.
