Iraq PM says his would-be assassins have been identified
Iraq: PM, Mustafa al-Kadhimi states that the Assassins of Sunday’s failed assassination attempt at his home in Baghdad have at now been identified.
In this failed attempt, Six of the PM’s guards were injured in the pre-dawn attack carried out by armed drones, which also managed to damage the building. The PM gave an ambiguous comment on tis, saying that they will definitely catch these unlawful perpetrators and that they are well aware of who they are.
Suspicion has now befallen the Iran-backed Shia Muslim militias, even though no group has yet claimed to have anything to do with this incident. Security sources have told the press that the assault was carried out by at least one militia, saying that the weapons involved were no doubt were Iranian in origin.
This incident has occurred just in the middle of increasing tensions between the two countries in light of the parliamentary elections held shortly beforehand. According to the interior minister, the attack included three drones out of which two were taken down by security but the third reached the PM’s house.
