Israeli soldiers shoot dead Palestinian teenager in the occupied West Bank

Feb 14, 2022: The Palestinian Ministry of Health and the state-run Wafa News Agency reported Monday that Israeli troops shot dead a 17-year-old Palestinian during clashes near the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.
The health ministry said Muhammad Abu Salah was killed in the village of Silat al-Harithiya when troops arrived late Sunday to demolish the house of Muhammad Jaradat, who was accused of killing an Israeli man late last year.
The army said “violent riots” broke out ahead of the planned demolition, “with the participation of hundreds of Palestinians,” some of whom hurled explosives at Israeli troops.
“The troops identified a number of armed rioters, and fired towards them in order to neutralise the threat,” the army statement said without commenting directly on the teenager’s death.
Muhammad Jaradat is accused of killing an Israeli man in a December 16 car bombing near an illegal Jewish outpost in Homesh. The former settlement was evacuated in 2005 as part of Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army had said earlier that it will destroy one floor of the house in which he lived.
Israel says demolishing the attackers’ homes could help prevent future attacks. Rights groups have condemned the tactic, which often targets homes where other family members live, as a collective punishment.
