Issues and Solutions: Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro, Needs to Think Strategically

Mr. Kashif Shoro has been elected as mayor of Hyderabad. I think it is a fate for Hyderabad that it has got one who is young, energetic, and thinking for the betterment of Hyderabad and Hyderabadis. Hyderabadis should be thankful to Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for continuing the legacy of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto by promoting the young blood.

Undoubtedly, the mayor is going to be responsible for the civic and social development of the city. Mr. Kashif needs to think beyond the old-developed methods in order to turn the city into an exemplary one; portraying a positive image of the city in front of the national and international community. He has a big job to do but with wisdom and timely decision and implementation otherwise, time does not repeat.

Firstly, he should invite experts in environment, tourism, zoo, music, cleanliness, administration, water, education, public policy, entrepreneurship, startups, and development. This group needs to be invited to have the best policy options for the uplift of Hyderabad.

Secondly, he should have a master plan for the youth of Hyderabad. For youth, initiation of providing training skill sets of a sort which take them to have sources of earning. And it must be prioritized above all. Outclass trainers of entrepreneurship and startup development should be members of his team.

Thirdly, Hyderabad has been engulfed in the miseries and problems of encroachment. The encroachment issue ought to be resolved immediately after having meaningful consultation with the business community of the city. Half of the beauty of the city is badly ruined by the encroachment entities who are doing nothing but adding input to the malignity of the city. High encroachment can be viewed from the city gate to Pakko Qilo entrance, Zareen Hall road, Anaj Mandi, and the inner side of the city. Old-age people suffer most from the availability of high encroachment.

Furthermore, the main issue which has been driving anxiety for Hyderabadis has been the traffic jam issue. The four-seater vehicles -commute from Badin Bus Stop to Liaqat Colony, Eye Hospital, and Hala Naka-, local bus commute from Jamshoro to the Channel via the main city, and heavy vehicles of good transport service in the heart of the city make people’s life more miserable. They should have separate vehicle stops where they can commute their journey and earn for themselves and family by not harming anyone in the city.

However, the drainage issue of the city is not a dream of only one night. This issue has erupted many conflicts among people and even relatives. The draining issue is mainly a problem for the areas like Liaqat Colony, Sakhi Pir Colony-Hethalo Maal Piri, Qadam Gah Mola Ali (A.S) Station Road, Thandi Sarak, and Khahi Road. Drainage issues must also be prioritized among others.

In order to avoid the non-availability or delay of development funds from the government, he can strive to develop revenue streams for the city through initiating fairs of agricultural exhibitions, science & technology competitions, entrepreneurship, startup competitions, tourism opportunities, and intellectual property development and protection. The better will be that he tries to develop science & technology parks, software parks, and business incubation centers for the young blood of Hyderabad. Doing this will let youth learn how to catch fish rather than merely focusing on someone who gives them a fish.

In my opinion, the newly elected mayor, Mr. Kashif Shoro should be thinking more strategically about how the potential of Hyderabad can be turned into a lucrative entity for the city leading to the prosperity of Pakistan, and how to improve the life of people at large.
