JI marked Karachi Solidarity Day

Islamabad, Oct. 14 (Online): Karachi Solidarity Day was marked in all major cities on Wednesday on the appeal of Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Senator Sirajul Haq.
The purpose of the event was to put pressure on the rulers for the solution of problems being faced by the millions of residents of the port city. The JI leaders warned the rulers to address the issues of the provincial capital or get ready to face the public wrath.
JI Emir Senator Sirajul Haq along with JI Karachi Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rahman addressed the rally in Islamabad while JI Lahore chapter Emir Zikrullah Majahid led the march in Lahore. Rallies were taken out in all other major cities.
Addressing the gathering in federal capital, JI Emir Sirajul Haq warned the rulers against rising public anger for paying no attention towards the decades’ long issues of Karachi.
He said the JI would hold sit-in in front of residences of the rulers if the fair demands of Karachi residents were not met. He said the people of Karachi had long been raising concern over the population census but the federal government had not paid attention to resolve the problem.
Sewerage issues, cleanliness problems, heaps of dirt in every street, load shedding issue and unavailability of drinking water were long been haunting the thousands of residents but the district, provincial and federal government turned a blind eye towards the chronic problems, he added. Senator Siraj said the JI would continue raising voice for the oppressed community and underdeveloped areas.
JI Karachi Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rahman said the PPP had never raised the issue of the misrepresentation of Karachi population in the census.
And it was because the provincial government did not want any addition to the national and provincial legislative assemblies’ seats for Karachi, he added. Hafiz Naeem said Karachi needed local government system similar to that of developed by the KP government in 2002.
