Islamabad August 31 (Online Int’l): A joint session of the Upper and Lower houses is likely to be called this week, sources at the Parliament House said on Monday.
In this regard, the consultation process at the government level is continuing. National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar and Adviser to Prime Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan on Monday made a telephonic conversation and discussed matters related to the joint session. The meeting between Asad Qaisar and Dr Babar Awan is likely to be held today (Tuesday), in which the government strategy will be envisaged.
The Parliamentary sources said that the summary of the joint session has been dispatched to Prime Minister Imran Khan and an advisory will soon be dispatched to President Dr Arif Alvi. The joint session is being called to get approval of the Anti-Money Laundering (Amendment ) Bill and Islamabad Capital Territory Bill.
The sources said that the Anti-Money Laundering (Amendment ) Bill is being approved to meet the conditions set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
It is important to mention here that the government officials are involved in back-door diplomacy to convince the opposition for its cooperation in the legislation process as the opposition had announced to oppose the bills during the joint session.
