The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged the United Nations to prevent the Hindutva Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime from pursuing the Hindutva agenda in the UN-acknowledged disputed territory of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement in Srinagar said the future of Kashmiris is associated with the Kashmir dispute that can only be secured by resolving it as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
He pointed out that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute was imperative not only for lasting peace in South Asia but also for peace in the entire world as Kashmir is surrounded by three nuclear powers, Pakistan, India and China, housing nearly half of the world population.
Describing India’s occupation of Jammu and Kashmir as the “worst manifestation of modern-day colonialism,” he called upon the UN to push for a peaceful settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Security Council resolutions and will of Kashmiri people.
Noting that since 1946, 80 former colonies have gained independence, APHC spokesman said there are still people who are denied the right to self-determination, “most prominently the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.”
The right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people was recognized by the UN Security Council resolutions which prescribed that the final disposition of Jammu and Kashmir should be decided by its people through a free and fair plebiscite, he added.
He said these resolutions were accepted by both India and Pakistan, adding that under Article 25 of the UN Charter, both parties are obliged to implement these resolutions.
The spokesman said for 77 years, through military force and fraud, India has avoided the implementation of UN resolutions, and since 1947, Indian troops have killed over 40,000 Kashmiris. Since 5th August 2019, he said, India has taken “unilateral and illegal steps” and violated all international laws.
The APHC also expressed solidarity with the family of the detained Muhammad Ayub Mir, whose brother-in-law, Muhammad Shafi Jan, passed away in Srinagar.
The statement condemned the Indian government for not releasing Muhammad Ayub Mir to attend the funeral prayer of his brother-in-law.
The detained Muhammad Ayub Dar is a cancer patient and is admitted in Jammu hospital.
