KCCI urges PM Imran Khan to extend the tax return filing date

The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking extension of the date for submission of tax returns.
In a letter written by KCCI President M Sharq Vohra, a request has been made to extend the date of submission of tax returns till January 30.
The president of the chamber, in a letter, informed PM Imran that there were “mistakes” in the forms issued by the tax authority. He also added that they have informed the FBR chairman of the mistakes in a letter on November 23.

The letter said that the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic has affected the routine of tax experts and it is a difficult time, therefore the taxpayers should be facilitated.
It is pertinent to mention that today (Tuesday) is the last date for filing the tax return, as the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) refused to grant any extension to the date.

Earlier, the Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has urged the FBR to extend the date for filing of return of income for the tax year 2020 till 31st January 2021.

The letter to PM Imran comes a day after the FBR said that it will not be granting any more extensions to file income tax returns even after receiving less than 1.5 million returns. However, the FBR has allowed chief commissioners to allow returns if someone seeks to file them after December 8, 2020.
