India: Dr Rairu Gopal, fondly called the ‘two-rupee doctor’ for charging just Rs.2 per consultation, passed away in Kannur at 80.

Over five decades, he treated more than 18 lakh patients, often beginning his day at 3 am to accommodate students and workers.

Honoured by the IMA as Kerala’s best family doctor, he was praised by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as “the people’s doctor” for making healthcare accessible to the poor.
