LAHORE (Our Correspondent): The Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT) has fined Options International, a Lahore-based restaurant, Rs6 million for unlawfully selling Starbucks branding within the country.

Despite the appeal filed by M/s Options International (SMC-Pvt.) Limited, the specialized forum rejected it, citing the illegal use of Starbucks branding across its establishments. In its ruling, the Competition Appellate Tribunal (CAT) increased the penalty from the initial Rs. 50 lakhs to Rs. 60 lakhs.

Starbucks, the renowned coffeehouse chain from Seattle, initiated legal action against the Pakistani eatery for fraudulently offering “Starbucks Coffee” and utilizing Starbucks trademarks in its branding.
